More info on SF casting call

"The mohawk person just has to look the part. They don't have to know how to play. Having a guitar would be excellent, but I suspect it would be easier to find a guitar to use/rent than finding the mohawk person. The comp they sent me has a male, but you never know..."

So basically, I think if you are a weirdo with a funny haircut and are interested, you probably qualify.

ERIC, I'M LOOKING AT YOU.

(I was looking at you before too; this not to imply that you now qualify because you don't have to know how to play!)

Dave King? Bueller? Bueller?

SAN FRANCISCO - mohawk model needed

Hey SF,

I used to assist for a professional photographer, and he contacted me looking for the following. Please let me know if you're interested. OK to forward. His studio is located in Redwood City.

---

I'm estimating on a trade ad where they want a mohawk guitarist wearing a lab coat. I remembered all the musician types you photographed for that nightclub. The client wants to shoot the week of 6/16. It's a paid gig, probably 1-2 hours at my photo studio.

me: 1 art school: 0

Today, my final critique for senior thesis (senior seminar? i forget which one this is) included the following images:

1) a baby
2) my cat
3) a graveyard

That's a Grand Slam of photography clichés, folks!

I should be ashamed, but really it makes me giggle.
...or maybe that's the sleep deprivation, I can't tell anymore.

Some day I will upload those images, but in the meantime I revel in the images of your imagination. Puppies, kitties, rainbows and babies! Art school is Love! PLUR!

Next semester I will try for Advanced Artistic Photography Clichés, featuring such classics as:

1) Hipsters on the couch looking bored
2) Hipsters in underwear looking bored
3) Drunk hipsters
4) Extended self-portrait project
5) Abandoned spaces (check!)

(I don't even remember what PLUR stands for, thank god.)

Awful winters. Flat terrain. Earthquakes?!? That part wasn't in the contract!

5.4 2008/04/18 09:36:57 38.501 -87.898 10.0 ILLINOIS

It woke me up! Largest ever in Illinois!
Epicenter near Olney. (Were the albino squirrels afraid?)

I was very confused. At one point, I actually questioned my sanity, and wondered if I was having a stroke or something. The birds outside kept singing (do they in SF too? I never noticed). Also, the building didn't creak, which was always the tell for me. Different construction, I guess? The cat was freaking out though, which did make me feel less crazy.

Good to know that I was too busy being confused to bother moving out from under the gigantic framed drawing that hangs over my bed. :\

"The largest historical earthquake in the region (magnitude 5.4) damaged southern Illinois in 1968." I guess if I were a dedicated photojournalist, I would start driving south right now. Oh wait, "Property damage in the area consisted mainly of fallen bricks from chimneys, broken windows, toppled television aerials, and cracked or fallen plaster." I think I can return to bed (no offense to your fallen plaster).

Also interesting: "Earthquakes in the central and eastern U.S., although less frequent than in the western U.S., are typically felt over a much broader region." From the '68 quake again, "Felt over all or parts of 23 States: from southeast Minnesota to central Alabama and Georgia and from western North Carolina to central Kansas. People in multistory buildings in Boston, Massachusetts and southern Ontario, Canada, felt the earthquake."

As a related aside, looking at that USGS site I'm glad I don't live in the Aleutian Islands at the moment.

call for models - CHICAGO ONLY

Chicago folks, I need models again!

Currently I have two projects running:

1. "Hollywood" style portraits (incl. men)
I don't have a lot of choice stylistically on this one, it's an assignment. But the whole idea is to make you look like a movie star from the 30s, so these should be aesthetically pleasing in the end, yay!
We can shoot on location wherever you'd like, or in the studio at school. Those of you who do drag (in either direction) are more than welcome to portray that; doing photos in both gender representations might be a fun way to slightly subvert the "hollywood" expectations. These are due in about 3 weeks.

2. Photos of intimate, domestic scenes
I know this sounds like a euphemism for sex, but really I only want one of the images to portray (or imply) sex :) I am looking for things like: changing a baby's diaper, drinking tea at the breakfast table, lounging in bed; those sorts of activities. Ideally, most of these will involve two people, with the implication of a relationship. I am going for a very slick, commercial look with these, so I will need locations that are relatively uncluttered. (Some can be tight shots, so an entire clean room isn't always necessary.)
I will be choreographing these images fairly strictly, so while ideas and improvisation are always welcome, don't worry about not knowing what to do. It won't be like the window project, where I asked you to contribute something personal.
This is a major, semester-long project, so I will need to be shooting this continuously. I can send you a project proposal if you are interested.

Thanks,
.a
